Air fryer accessories can improve results and save cleaning work, but many kits come with pieces that end up in a drawer. Here are the five that actually get used, what they're for and how to pick the right size. Before buying anything, measure the inside of your basket and check the manual for the maximum temperature each material can handle.

1. Air fryer liners: protect the basket and make cleanup easier. Perforated is best.
2. Racks and trays: let you cook on two levels or lift the food so the air can circulate.
3. Silicone moulds: for eggs, batters and recipes with a bit of sauce.
4. Kitchen tongs: to turn and remove food without scratching the nonstick coating.
5. Oil sprayers: spread a thin layer to brown with little fat.

• Always measure the inside of your basket or drawer before buying.
• Check the maximum temperature and that the material is food-safe.
• Avoid huge kits if you're only going to use two or three pieces.
• Think about cleaning: can it go in the dishwasher? Confirm with the manufacturer.

If you haven't chosen an air fryer yet, start with the air fryer guide or the brands we feature. And to find out what to cook and for how long, there are the recipes and the approximate cooking time chart.

Good tongs and perforated liners are enough to start. The rest depends on what you cook.

Only if they fit in your basket and handle the temperature. Measure before you buy.
