Air fryer liners protect the basket from splatter, keep food from sticking and cut down cleaning time. There are several types and not all work for everything.
Types of paper
- Perforated paper. It has holes so air can circulate. It's the best choice for most uses.
- Baking or parchment paper. Fine if it withstands the temperature the manufacturer states; it shouldn't cover the basket completely.
- Reusable silicone liners. A durable alternative to paper; see the silicone moulds.
How to use it properly
- Never put it in loose and empty. The fan can lift it and it can touch the heating element. Place the food on top so it stays held down.
- Don't cover the whole basket. Air has to circulate through the gaps.
- Pick the size of your basket (round or square) so it doesn't stick out.
- Respect the maximum temperature stated on the paper.
What to check when buying
- Material and the maximum temperature declared by the manufacturer.
- Whether it's perforated and a size compatible with your basket.
- Whether it's single-use or reusable.

Common mistakes with liners
- Covering everything. If you cover the whole basket, the air doesn't circulate and the food cooks poorly.
- Using it without food on top. It can lift up with the fan.
- Reusing a very stained liner. Replace the paper when it's dirty or torn.
Frequently asked questions
Can you use aluminum foil in an air fryer?
It depends on the model. Some manufacturers allow it with precautions and others advise against it, so check your appliance's manual.
Are air fryer liners reusable?
Some types are, such as silicone ones; disposable paper is replaced when it's dirty or torn.
How long does the paper hold up at high temperature?
Each paper states its maximum temperature. Respect it and don't use it above what the manufacturer indicates.
